More Books and chatty stuff

Book igloo
Although I am not finished yet with those old time Baptists who freely and openly and firmly declared themselves to be Protestants, (See #BaptistHeritage and more latterly #BaptistHistory on Twitter) I thought I would head for a more chatty post.  I was off today, which included a delightful lunch out in Enniskillen - our local county town. Did a few (not all of the second hand book sources) and picked up the following paper backs for a song.

Operation World Prayer Guide to the World. OK, its the 2110 edition, but pencil in "Islamic State Terrorism" in a few countries and keep going. Intelligent praying is the best kind when united with faith.

The Kingdom of God by Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones. (Published by Crossway Books) Some sermons from the good doctor preached in 1963.

The Faith edited by Fredrick Tatford. Basically a Plymouth Brethren (printed by John Ritchie) theological primer by various writers. Writers include FF  Bruce (making admirable use of the Westminster Confession of Faith) on the Scriptures and WE Vine on the Trinity. Who knows, but I might be able to utilise some quotes from this book in the next few days.  A rough glance at the chapter on the Sovereignty of God seems Calvinistic enough.

How shall they hear? Church Based Evangelism by Peter Jeffrey. (Published by Evangelical Press) Among other things, he tackles the modern notion now being propagated by the Sword of the Lord crowd whereby you can supposedly make Jesus your Saviour but not necessarily your Lord. Quotes Tozer on this one. After I type this note and post it up on the internet, I want to get this quote out there in Twitter too.

Amplified Bible (Published by Zondervan) Cheap economy paperback but a useful tool for Bible study.

Introduction to the Bible (Published by Scripture Union) Various writers including Packer, Bruce and Gutherie. A couple of paragraphs summing up the contents of each book.

So that's it for another while. Enjoy.
