When it comes to the wacky side of American Fundamentalism, Mr Anderson1611 is up there with the best of them. Join over 82,000 others and listen to this part of a sermon that explains why the real reason why the good ole' USA is going down the tubes (excuse the pun). That's right because of the unscriptural way some of her finest men empty their bladders. #NeverFailsToRaiseASmileDoesIt?
In the part of the sermon above (this time linked to by SA1611 himself) the issue is about women being forbidden to "Say 'Amen!' in church". The video only lasts 3-4 minutes, so it isn't hard to listen to. His argument is as follows:
1/ 1 Timothy 2:11-12 says that the woman should learn in silence with all subjection, not being suffered to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
2/ 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 declares: "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."
3) Women can chat OK before the meeting begins and sing the hymns, but when it comes to the sermon, then they are to be quiet because learning time is silence time.
4) Even if agreeing (Amen = That's right) the woman is not to contribute any in the church. One woman verbally disagreed with him when he was preaching and he "kinda blew up a little bit" {Anderson Smiles}
My thoughts: While a woman is not to assume authority in the church - particularly as a teacher - yet it does not extend to giving a reverent "Amen" if she feels moved by her heart to do so. To be honest, I would have a bigger problem with those men who shout "Amen" several times a minute with all the rapidity of an excited horse racing commentator on steroids. Thankfully, I don't frequent any churches (whether as a pew sitter or a preacher) where, frankly, such unhelpful activity takes place. I can cope with "Amens" alright, but if it gets in the way of people hearing the word of God, then I would think that the Devil doesn't have to steal away the good seed because it isn't hitting the soil anyway. Just my thoughts.
I really must extend this "No ladies shouting 'Amen' in church" bit a little further. My good friend #Wylie covered this subject too in one of his books. When setting out with a new congregation, he urges us to encourage the men to respond in the church with an "Amen!", reminding us that a little training is required. But what about the ladies? Must their lips remain zipped?
Ah, my friends, where there is a will, there is always a way:
Not to be outdone... |
I must admit that I have never been in a church where the ladies held up little signs in the meetings. Maybe I should get out and about a bit more ;o)
I hope this brightens up your Monday morning...
