Putting this up here on the blog because I want to be able to access it again easily. It shows how relevant the warning both of Paul and Jude proved to be. This is what passes for the gospel in some places today. Satan must jump up and down with undiluted joy at the thought of this passing for authentic NT Christianity. This is not a Calvinist versus the rest issue. This is the difference between NT Christianity and the Satanic counterfeit. Jesus saves His people from their sins. (Mathtew 1:21) From such grieveous wolves, masquerading as angels of light, good Lord, deliver us.

Amen. This is truly the false versus NT Christianity. But those who do not believe the doctrines of grace often have a faulty theology that begins with a misunderstanding of fallen man's true condition and the sinfulness of sin coupled with a poor grasp of Christ's perfect life, His work on the cross and His resurrection. Their theology is a mile wide and an inch deep and so they simply cannot understand the deeper truths and sadly, mock them instead.
ReplyDeleteI am not altogether sure that the Arminian gospel was given in this passage either? Jesus didn't say to the young man, 'wait, God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. But first you have to admit you're a sinner and ask me into your heart.' Jesus didn't ask the musicians to play Just as I am and try to emotionally manipulate the man into "making a decision for Christ." I'm not sure the Arminian can say that Christ did everything they do to try and get a convert. Or that He was completely honest with the young man either. He did not tell him he was a sinner and there's only one way to be saved. Not sure it makes any point at all about how to witness, per se.
ReplyDeleteThe Arminian starts and ends with man. What does man deserve, what does man need, what does man want? What makes sense to us? But the "Calvinist" starts with God. If you start there, then you understand a whole host of things that never made sense before. As for man, he is condemned already. Whatever God does, He does out of His own mercy and grace apart from what we deserve!
I tend to agree, although not every Arminian runs with the "Wait, God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life" stuff either. Thanks for dropping by.
